MODERATORS CORNER February. I dodged January by posting three Deviant-Focuses last time.
Not this time.
This time we got a treat for you.
Especially if you are into Zombieartwork.
Please check out *sideshowmonkey 's gallery if you have a chance. It's a killer!
Now, the updates in this group are mainly deviantfocus and additions to the favourites section.
What would YOU like to see from this group?
It's starting to get quite annying that there is next to no feedback on anything that I do with this group.
This is also the main reason why it sometimes take a long time for any updates to happend.
So, therefore I'd like to see some suggestions, competition entries, complaints, praise, anything really.
Please note that if it states that a competition is on ice, that merely means that there is no deadline for entry yet. I want to see them entries!!!
You don't think you can make a decent competition entry?
Bullshit! Give us yer crappiest stickfigure razide! It's atleast something.
Why am I not joining the competition?
Well, to be quite honest- it gets kinda lame to see that I am the only one that enters competition with an entry. Makes me feel like this group is for me alone...and that is not the case.
So. Come on now!
Also, the favourites section has gotten quite some additions, check it out, it's filled with dark, Kult-esque art.

b. Where do you live? (part of the world is okay)__

c. How old are you? (be as cryptic or correct as you want)__

d. Whats the story behind your nickname here on DeviantArt?___
Sideshow Monkey is a take on those little organ grinder monkies. They were forced to dance and sing and work for peanuts as their master just sat on his fat butt and turned a little crank on the organ. I kind of feel like that little monkey when I’m doing my freelance work, just forced to wear a collar and dance for my peanuts.
Plus it gives me an excuse to draw a zombie monkey for my avatar.
And now the art-questions:___
1. How long have you been into art?___
Since I can remember holding a pencil.
2. Did you create horror-esque art from the start?___
I think I’ve always been into monsters but I was also into MAD magazine and drawing really weird people and crazy situations. I have drawings from when I was little and they’re filled with monsters and guts, real funny stuff to see.
3. What made you start with horror-esque art?___
My parents were great and would always bring home a big box of comics they picked up at a flea market or garage sale. They were filled with everything from superheroes to Archie but the books that always stood out to me were the horror books. “House of Mystery”, “Unexpected” and “Weird War Tales” really made me want to draw comics and then monsters took over my life.
I also remember begging my mom to buy me a Fangoria magazine when I little. I think it was issue #2 and had the mutated bear from the movie “Prophecy” on the cover. That thing scared the hell out of me and I wanted to draw things that looked like that.
4. What(if any) are your ties to Horror-RPG's in general and Kult in particular?___
Not a whole lot. I did some work for Dan Brereton’s “Nocturnals: Midnight Companion” RPG and that came out pretty cool. I did play a lot of White Wolf stuff and “Call of Cthulhu” in college. I haven’t played Kult yet but it sounds like something I would really like.
5. How do you feel about getting recognition by a group that is into horror-rpg's?___
I think it is awesome. Some of my best friends are into horror RPG’s.
6. What (or who) are your greatest inspirations for your artwork?___
That’s a long story but I’ll try and keep it short. When I was around 10 years old I went with my folks to the Ohio state Fair. As we looked around I saw the tents for the sideshow, which included a two-faced cow and the monkey girl, I had to see these things. I asked my parents for a couple quarters to go play some video games at the arcade tent while they finished looking around. They gave me a couple quarters and I ran straight for the sideshow but on the way I saw a wooden booth with a giant painting of a Bigfoot and a beautiful woman in a bikini standing in the palm of a hand. The sign read “Minnesota Ice-MAN and the world’s smallest woman”. I had to go see this so I paid my 50 cents and went in. The Ice-man was a Bigfoot looking thing frozen in ice. I still remember what it looked like and end up drawing it all the time. Then I went on to the next exhibit, the world’s smallest woman. This I had to see, a beautiful naked woman the size of my action figures, how could a kid that age resist seeing that. As I walked in past the curtain I saw the woman… a wrinkled, old woman about 18 inches tall resting on a pillow and smoking a cigarette with itty-bitty nub hands. She stared at me for the longest time and then said “What are you looking at kid?”. I was horrified and ran out of there and straight back to my parents but I couldn’t tell them where I’ve been since I was supposed to be in the arcade. I had nightmares of that day and had to begin drawing that kind of stuff. It is one of the biggest inspirations for my work.
7. Do you listen to music when creating art? If so, What kind of music?___
Yea, I mainly listen to movie soundtracks to get in the mood. Other times I listen to punk, industrial or electronic stuff.
8. What are your tools of trade? What do you create your artwork with?____
Mainly just pencil and paper and then scan it in and color in Photoshop CS. I just bought a wacom tablet and have started to color most of my work with that now.
Thanks!
Dave
